Janesville parents considering having their child start Kindergarten early need to get them evaluated first. P4J Programs Coordinator for the Janesville School District Angela Lynch says a parent or legal guardian with a child who is four-years old after September 1st, 2025, but will be five-years-old on or before November 1st of this year, may request an evaluation to see if their child qualifies for the 2025-26 school year. A district team will evaluate each early Kindergarten applicant in May and June. Children who are recommended for early entrance to Kindergarten will be considered by the school board in June.

The Piccadilly line train fleet has repaired and will be back in service in a few weeks' time.

The Janesville Police Department is working to identify the owner of a loose dog that bit a person today on the city's West Side. The incident happen at noon in the 23-hundred block of Harvard Drive. The dog is described as a 15 to 20 pound short hair that is white in color and possibly a male mixed breed. The dog had no collar but appeared clean and well-groomed indicating it may have escaped from its yard or home. The dog ran off and remains on the loose. Anyone with information on the owner of the canine or the home it may be located is asked to contact the non-emergency number of the Rock County Communications Center at 608-757-2244.

The Rock County Medical Examiner's Department is identifying two men killed in separate crashes in recent weeks in the Town of Janesville and the Town of Rutland. 58-year-old Edward J. Le Donne of Sussex died following a two-vehicle accident December 30th at the intersection of County Road A and County Road H in the Town of Janesville. Investigators determined that the victim was headed south on H when he failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection with A and collided with a westbound vehicle operated by a 19-year-old Janesville man. Le Donne was pronounced dead at the hospital. 25-year-old Steven A. Hall of Stoughton was killed in a January 10th crash in the 40 block of North Union Road in the Town of Rutland. Both incidents remain under investigation.

A Fox Lake, Wisconsin man is accused of stealing his brother's identity during an October arrest in Beloit. Prosecutors say a police officer pulled over a vehicle on October 10th near Calumet Street and Congress Avenue in the City of Beloit. During the stop, 30-year-old Chaz Michael Chenoweth exited the vehicle and began sprinting towards Shopiere Road. The officer located him in a nearby garage and took him into custody. The suspect identified himself using his brother's name and was provided a court date and released. Another officer met with a separate man on December 2nd at the Beloit Police Department. The man reported that he received a letter stating he was charged with resisting an officer. However, he said the letter was meant for his brother, Chaz Chenoweth, who used his name without consent during his arrest because he was wanted for a shooting. Chenoweth faces charges of identity theft and obstructing an officer.

The City of Janesville is honoring the iconic beloved voice of the Milwaukee Brewers Bob Uecker. The city has declared (Tuesday) January 21st, 2025 Bob Uecker Day. The former backup catcher known as “Mr Baseball” died last Thursday at the age of 90. Following six seasons as a player in the Major Leagues in the 60s, Uecker served as the primary play-by-play radio broadcaster for the Brewers for 54 seasons. He won numerous broadcasting awards and gained notoriety with his appearances on the “Tonight Show” with Johnny Carson and his roles on the ABC sitcom “Mr. Belvedere” and in the “Major League” films. In remembrance of his legacy, the City of Janesville has turned the downtown bridge lights to yellow and blue.

The Monroe Police Department is warning the community about a possible email scam. A Monroe resident reported receiving an email from an unknown entity regarding a COVID 19 payment from the IRS. The email requested the recipient send personal information in order to receive the check. The IRS normally wouldn't send this type of email and the check would come by mail or be put into your account electronically. Not to mention, the IRS already has your personal information. Residents are urged to carefully read their emails to avoid scams like this.

Several staffers are being recognized as the 2024 Employees of the Year in the City of Janesville. Janesville Communications Specialist Amanda Gilbert says these awards are peer-selected. The winners are chosen for their outstanding job performance, productivity, exceptional service, and civic participation. Legal/Human Resources Support Clerk Rebecca Lee was named the Administrative Employee of the Year. The Public Safety Employee of the Year went to Officer Carlos Galvan. And the Public Works Employee of the Year was Senior Engineering Technician Michael Rebman.
