Strong thunderstorms are possible this Memorial Day afternoon. While widespread severe weather is not expected, there could be some small hail and isolated damaging wind gusts in some of the stronger thunderstorms that pass through southeast Minnesota and North Iowa.

It sure is breezy for your Sunday. While that shouldn't detract too much from the sunny skies and mild temperatures through the day, it does lead to some things to be aware of. Out in rural areas, be aware of lowered visibility due to blowing dust. Loose outdoor items could blow around as well, so bring those items indoors or tie them down. The winds should begin to subside this evening and especially after sunset.

There is the potential for severe weather in both rounds of thunderstorms. For tonight, main threats are gusty winds and some small hail. These storms will be efficient rain producers so there is also the threat for heavy rain.

Torrential rains overnight Friday led to flooding all around the area, with major roads closed around Austin and Spring Valley. Waters have since receded but another line of showers and thunderstorms is currently moving through the area adding more water to already swollen creeks and rivers.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for portions of southeast Minnesota and western Wisconsin through 4 am Tuesday. Main threats are wind gusts to 70 mph and large hail.
