It is with heavy hearts that the University of Indianapolis acknowledges the passing of Dr. Gene Sease, who served as the fifth president of the University. Dr. Sease’s life was a testament to visionary leadership and impactful community engagement. His influence extends far beyond the university walls, leaving an indelible mark on the city of Indianapolis and the countless lives he touched.

The Amateur Sports Capital of the World, Indianapolis, has added another historic event to its roster, the 2024 U.S. Olympic Swim Trials, and with it, brings new and exciting opportunities for the University of Indianapolis community. From leading the organization of thousands of volunteers to being one of those volunteers in the midst of the action, UIndy students and faculty are proud to support the largest indoor swim meet in history.

The United States Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of seizing firearms from domestic abusers in U.S. v. Rahimi. In her full opinion concurring, Justice Sonia Sotomayor cited an article written by UIndy Professor Aaron Kivisto.

The University of Indianapolis hosted more than 20 young pianists of all talents in June for the 30th Annual Summer Piano Camp. Led by UIndy students, alumni, and faculty, the Summer Piano Camp immersed its young musicians in various aspects of music, including solo and ensemble performance, history, composition, and theory.

In June, the University of Indianapolis hosted more than 80 high school students from Perry Township on campus for the Second Annual UIndy Summer Success Camp. The Summer Success Camp, offered at no-cost to students thanks to a grant from Lilly Endowment Inc., offers attendees the opportunity to learn more about college life with the goal of encouraging more students to pursue higher education.

The 2024 Indiana Mental Health Roundtable Summit brought experts and stakeholders from across the state together to discuss the multifaceted impact of mental health. Amongst these experts was Professor Lynell Westbrook Cooper, MSW, LCSW, from the Phylis Lan Lin School of Social Work and Counseling at the University of Indianapolis.

The Kellogg Writers Series at the University of Indianapolis announced its 2024-25 season, which features four critically acclaimed writers, including a member of UIndy’s faculty, who represent a variety of literary genres, including poetry and memoir.

The Class of 2028 marked the beginning of their journeys as Greyhounds with the first-ever Service for Impact Day on Saturday, August 24. More than 150 students, faculty and staff volunteered at more than a dozen Indianapolis non-profit organizations, including Bethany Community Gardens, Exodus Refugee Immigration Inc., Indy Parks, and Hope for Tomorrow.
