The Tehran Times is Iran's pioneering English-language daily newspaper, established in 1979 to serve as a voice for the Islamic Revolution and the oppressed people worldwide. As a state-run publication, it covers domestic news across various spheres, including culture, politics, economics, society, and sports, while also providing commentary on international affairs.
The newspaper caters primarily to an Iranian readership interested in regional and global developments, as well as foreign diplomats, media outlets, and international organizations based in Tehran seeking insights into the Iranian perspective. It pays particular attention to showcasing Iran's tourist attractions and women's issues, reflecting the country's cultural richness and societal dynamics.
While maintaining a strong focus on news from the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific region, the Tehran Times also covers notable events and stories from other parts of the world, including Latin America. Its coverage encompasses government announcements, evolving stories, event reporting, breaking news, and press releases.
Alongside its print edition, which transitioned to full-color printing in 2011, the Tehran Times serves an educational purpose, with English language students utilizing its content to improve their proficiency in standard English. The newspaper has also published an English-Persian glossary to aid readers in understanding media terminology.
In 2002, the Tehran Times established the Mehr News Agency (MNA), which now operates under the same management, further expanding its reach and influence in disseminating news and information from an Iranian perspective.
