United Airlines ended nonstop flights between John Wayne Airport (SNA) and Honolulu International Airport (HNL) with the Boeing 737-700 last year. The service was originally established by Continental Airlines, but was later inherited by United following their merger. With John Wayne Airport’s short runway, the 737-700 seemed to be the only aircraft feasible for the popular, but unusual route.Should United bring the route back? Let us know in the comments.

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner introduced never-before-seen technology on a passenger airliner: electronically dimmable windows. While it has been a distinguishable feature, it has not yet been seen on any other commercial aircraft. As reported yesterday by Simple Flying, next year will see the launch of a new KLM route from its hub at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) to San Diego International (SAN) in the US federal state of California. Initially served thrice-weekly with the Boeing 787, the new corridor looks to be a perfect fit for KLM's network.Indeed, with only a handful of European routes directly serving San Diego on a non-stop basis, the flights will be attractive not just to Dutch passengers but also to those elsewhere in Europe who can connect onto them in Amsterdam. At present, San Diego's only other European connections serve London Heathrow (British Airways) and Munich (Lufthansa).Additionally, with KLM being a SkyTeam member, this opens up the door for connections onto fellow alliance partner Delta Air Lines at the US end of the route.
