On Oct. 24, there was the first of 2 free sunset concerts in the Health Science Park with food trucks, beverages, and live music co-presented by Memphis Medical District Collaborative, University of Memphis' Blue Tom Records and the Overton Park Shell on Wheels, organized by the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music.

On Wednesday, October 9, the University of Memphis hosted a premiere to celebrate Amazon Prime’s “The College Tour,” starring the University of Memphis in their 12th season. Gage Farris, a junior and history major, said, “I am really proud to represent Memphis, the history department and the first-generation community of the UofM.”

Dia de los Muertos, also known as Day of the Dead, goes back about 3,000 years. Its rich traditions are being kept alive today with the University of Memphis’ Hispanic Student Association (HSA).

As Memphis continues to face difficulties with food access, safety, and economic opportunity, local residents and students are speaking out to create a brighter future for the city. From upgrading public places to investing in job training, they envision a Memphis where everyone has the resources they require to flourish.

For the Indian community on campus, the longing to reconnect with family and culture is especially meaningful. To celebrate these ties, the Hindu Students Organization (HSO) held a Diwali Potluck to honor their heritage.

Audience members shuffled into the Scheidt Family Performing Arts Center for a night of music from the University Singers under the direction of Dr. Francis Cathlina, accompanied by Amy Nguyen.

There is an exciting event coming up this month for music lovers of all ages, organized by the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music on Wednesday, Nov. 20, from 7-9pm at The Green Room at Crosstown Arts.
