If you got tired of watching Tennessee score in their traditional checkered end zone during the Alabama-Tennessee game this year, there is bad news if you live in the city of Calera.

COLUMBIANA – With their hands up, surrounding one of their classmates on a tight rope, several members of this year’s Youth Leadership Shelby County class stood by with encouragement as the student made their way down the rope from one end to another.

HOOVER – Leading their second-round playoff matchup against Russell County 24-7, the Spain Park Jaguars put the game out of reach late in the first half with a play that defined the game.

Thompson and Spain Park remain alive in the AHSAA playoffs with the Warriors in their 8th consecutive semifinal appearance this Friday and Spain Park carrying a 17-game win streak into the Class 6A quarterfinals. ALABASTER – With the Thompson defense facing a third-and-11 against Enterprise in the semifinals of the Class 7A playoffs on Friday, Nov. 22, the Warriors knew they had to step up and make a play in what was a slugfest of a start on the coldest night of the season.

HELENA – A few days after dropping their season opener by two points in overtime on their home floor, the Helena Huskies faced another challenge on Thursday, Nov. 21, entering the final quarter of a matchup with county foe Thompson trailing by one point.

HELENA – The Helena girls basketball team put together a consistent effort on Thursday, Nov. 21, to pick up their second victory of the season in a double-digit 47-36 win against county rival Thompson.
