The United States is the most heavily armed civilian population in the world. Not by a small amount either, but by a long shot. With a rate of 120.5 firearms per 100 people, they far outrank any other nation (Yemen ranks second with 52.8 firearms per 100 people). According to The Trace, a nonprofit news organization covering U.S. gun violence, the estimates for civilian gun possession in 2022 are closer to 433.9 million (also taking into account the number of guns that were removed from the population) and nearly one-third of all American adults claim to own a firearm.
