Today: Clear and dry conditions will remain across the region. Low humidity will keep temperatures feeling comfortable, dropping to cooler-than-normal levels Sunday night. Highs in will range from upper 80s to low 90s in northern counties, to mid 90s farther south. Mid Week: Comfortable conditions will stretch into the middle of the week. A northerly breeze will keep the humidity low, effectively holding any heat safety threats at bay and keeping rain chances very low. This Weekend: A classic southern summer pattern returns late in the week as high pressure begins to expand westward, bringing a return of heat and humidity. While dangerous heat index values will likely return and potentially trigger heat advisories, temperatures are not expected to reach the extreme levels experienced recently.

Dry air continues to keep humidity low across the region, but a return of tropical moisture late this week will bring back intense summer heat and typical afternoon storms. Today: Pleasant humidity levels will keep the heat manageable for most of the area. High temperatures will top out in the mid- to upper 90s, with overnight lows dipping into the comfortable upper 60s and low 70s. Southwestern Mississippi and northeastern Louisiana will feel a bit stickier, with heat index values peaking between 102 and 105 degrees this afternoon. A stray afternoon shower cannot be ruled out in those southwestern communities. End of the week: Southerly winds will pull moisture back into the region starting Thursday, making it feel much more humid. High temperatures will remain in the mid- to upper 90s, while nighttime lows will only drop into the mid-70s. Because of the rising humidity, dangerous heat index values are expected to expand across the entire area Friday and persist through the weekend. Heat advisories will likely be needed. Standard summertime rain chances will also return. Isolated afternoon showers and storms are possible Thursday south of Interstate 20, expanding across the region through the weekend. No widespread severe weather is expected, though a few stronger storms could produce gusty winds and heavy downpours.

Through Midweek Moisture will remain high through Wednesday, keeping humidity levels oppressive. Afternoon high temperatures combined with this humidity will reliably push heat index values past 105 degrees across the area today and through the next several days. While spotty afternoon showers and thunderstorms will provide brief cooling, they will be too isolated to offer widespread relief.

Extreme heat is here, and it will be the main weather story for a long time. A strong high-pressure system has settled over Central Mississippi. This system will bring lots of sunshine and very little rain from today through Sunday. Afternoon temperatures will climb near 100 degrees today as humidity drops. Even though the air might feel a little less sticky, the combination of heat and humidity will bring the heat index between 105 and 110 degrees outside. Because of this, a Heat Advisory is in effect for the entire area at least until 8 p.m. Monday. An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for Pike and Walthall counties due to higher humidity. There is almost no chance of rain until early next week. By then, some moisture might slide into the eastern parts of the area, bringing a small chance of showers. Although actual high temperatures will be slightly lower, heat indices will not change much due to the increasing humidity. Tracking the Tropics: Two tropical disturbances in the Atlantic Ocean could pose a threat to some Caribbean islands towards the end of next week. High pressure over the Gulf of America will keep these systems far away from the Gulf Coast.
