JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) -Central Mississippi is heading into a very wet week, with flooding concerns increasing through at least midweek.

Widespread rainfall totals of 5 to 7 inches are possible through the end of the week, with locally higher amounts where storms repeatedly track over the same areas. This will keep the threat of flash flooding, flooded roads, and rapidly rising creeks and streams elevated.

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) -A First Alert Weather Day is in effect as the remnants of Post-Tropical Cyclone Arthur move across the region. The main concern is significant flash flooding, with widespread rainfall totals of 3 to 5 inches expected through Friday and isolated amounts of 6 to 8 inches possible, especially south and east of the Jackson metro. Saturated ground and repeated rounds of heavy rain could lead to rapidly developing flash flooding, flooded roads, rising creeks and streams, and dangerous travel conditions.

Saturday will feature the highest coverage of storms, especially during the afternoon and evening, while rain chances begin to decrease Sunday as temperatures climb back toward 90 degrees. Humidity will remain high, with heat index values approaching 100 degrees at times.

While widespread severe weather is not expected, a few storms could produce damaging wind gusts, frequent lightning, and heavy rainfall. Localized flash flooding is also possible where storms repeatedly move over the same areas.

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) -Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue through the day, with a few stronger storms capable of producing heavy rain, gusty winds, and localized flash flooding. Patchy dense fog will develop early this morning across Mississippi, reducing visibility in some areas.

This pattern will remain in place through the weekend and into early next week, bringing increasing heat, humidity, and very limited chances for rainfall.
