The 2024 Valleywide Christmas Parade had a huge turnout on Thursday night. Locals lined the streets to watch 109 floats and cars cruise by. This year's parade was done in memory of Johnny Allen, the late Lanett Fire/EMS chief.

The final Valley council meeting of 2024 was a brief one. There were no resolutions or ordinances. However, city departments had some announcements.

EAMC-Lanier is officially East Alabama-Lanier Rural Emergency Hospital. A ribbon-cutting at the Valley hospital was held on a chilly Thursday morning to celebrate the occasion with clinicians, staff and community members.

The Alabama Sports Writers Association came out with the All-State teams for the 2024 football season. Several local players were represented on the state-wide list.

The final school board meeting of 2024 also served as the final meeting for two of the highest-ranking members in the district: Dr. Casey Chambley, CCSD Superintendent, and David Owen, the Assistant Superintendent.
