After roughly nine hours of counting absentee and provisional ballots last night, the races for New Hanover County school board and county commissioner seats remain effectively unchanged — although even closer than on Election Night, with several candidates eligible for recounts.

The New Hanover County Board of Elections voted on party lines to dismiss a protest filed by Republican Commissioner Dane Scalise's campaign, which alleged violations of election law and had demanded an earlier vote count. The Board's Democratic members agreed that the protest didn't question the accuracy of the vote itself.
