OUR TOWN: Our Town is decorating itself for fall
IT’S PASTY TIME IN OUR TOWN: Until Nov. 2, First Congregational Church, 36223 Alfred, corner of Base, is ready for customers to have a dinner of their famous pasties. To order, don’t delay, call the church at 586-725-0909. Or, walk right in and pick up as many as you need. The selling hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The cost of a pasty is $7. They have within them, ground beef, potatoes, carrots, onions and rutabaga. Orders may be made for frozen, cooled (to be reheated at home) and hot, ready-to-eat pasties. Should a customer want their pasties without rutabaga, please state that when calling. For those walking in, there will be some available without the vegetable, too. Note: After Nov. 2, there may be more available to sell. So call and ask.
Wreaths Across America Fundraiser Dinner Nov. 7: At VFW Post 7573. 35011 23 Mile, from 4:30-8 p.m., the dinner menu includes pasta, sauce without meat or Marinara sauce, salad, rolls and dessert. A free will donation will be accepted at the door. Those attending may purchase a wreath for $17 each. 50/50 raffles with drawings at 6 and 7:30 p.m. Readers may go to: [email protected]. Note — There will be a special ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 14, at noon, at Oakwood and St. Mary’s Catholic cemeteries when over 900 wreaths will be laid on grave sites. Our Town is encouraged to attend. Details of that day will be given in future Our Town columns.
ENJOYING FALL: It is a wonderful time of the year here in Michigan. We can absorb leaf colors and temperature changes. And, a time change that makes one sleepy on the first day of the one hour difference. But, we northerners can make our lives adjust. Strong, brave, intelligent we are. Happy fall! Awaiting the first snowflakes to flutter? Yes, it is a wonderful time of the year.
OUR TOWN IS BLESSED: Thanksgiving is a time for giving. Giving thanks for the many gifts Our Town provides, there is much for which to be thankful. For example, the hundreds of volunteers who make a difference every day of every month as part of an organization, club, school or church, just because it is part of their character. The many events in the past year that have occurred and things that have been accomplished for others, we must give thanks. Mayor Tom Semaan, council members, city workers and residents have pride in their city and keep it special. Families reside here because they are living in an outstanding place. Our schools, our churches, our library, our recreation department, our parks, our businesses, our recreation department, our historical society, our many organizations and festivals are outstanding. Residents have a clean, busy city to dwell in, thanks to them. Living here is precious. Innumerable hugs to each and every one who gave toward the betterment of Our Town. Happy Thanksgiving to all!
OUR TOWN: New Baltimore choir to bring Christmas cheer
GOODFELLOWS COLLECTION DEC. 6-7: Be generous to the Goodfellows, men and women, standing in the streets or on corners with jugs for collecting donations of money. It is an annual collection that has occurred since the late 1940s in Our Town, also in our country. The collection will give needy families in the area clothing, toys and perhaps, other needed items. The men and women will be outdoors, no matter what the weather might be, volunteering for this most important endeavor, always in early December. The Our Town columnist will be at the entrance of Huntington Bank with a collection jug. See you there!
MAKE IT A MERRY CHRISTMAS: Be together and make memories. Share time with each other. Play games, eat tasty food and laugh. Listen to the older members and hear their life stories, even record them for the future. Soon, the younger ones will become teenagers, and then adults, with children of their own. Appreciate your loved ones and hug them. Make it a special time for everyone. The years go by fast.
IT’S CHRISTMASTIME! A merry Christmastime! Being with family and loved ones, “It’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year.” Remember that song in 1963? It was popular on the radio and on the Saturday night “Hit Parade” television show in December for years. But, dear readers, be sure to make it “A Wonderful Time of the Year” for you. Appreciate the life that you have and share it with others. Give of yourself and volunteer as often as you can. Share your wisdom, your energy and your love. Then, soon, 2025 will be coming to add to your life’s journey living here in our wonderful Town. Be grateful. Be happy. Smile. Appreciate the many joys of being a part of, once again, our wonderful Town.
