MADISON – The more than 1,000 bowlers from across Alabama who plan on participating in the nearly month-long Alabama State Open Tournament in Madison must be aware the “Vanilla Gorilla” literally carries a lot of weight on the lanes in the annual battles for a state title and will be a force to be reckoned with in the competition taking place at both Madison Bowl and Redstone Arsenal Lanes.

MOBILE – For the first time in program history, both the boys and girls tennis teams from Bob Jones advanced to and scored points in the same season at the 81st annual AHSAA State Tennis Championships held at the Mobile Tennis Center, but only the boys No. 2 doubles team of Strikar Kaki and Joseph Park made the championship finals.

MADISON – After leaving coaching with 27 years of experience at the completion of the 2024 high school season at James Clemens High, Chad McGehee chose to continue teaching to secure his pension as an educator and begin a real estate career while having a seamless transition from one profession to the next. Away from coaching, he taught at both Horizon Elementary School as part of Madison City Schools and Johnson Elementary, which is school in the Limestone County School System. McGehee soon realized that was not his calling in life and he needed to return to coaching.

HUNTSVILLE – Mark Russell, executive director of the Huntsville Sports Commission, said it best, “Play soccer!” His proud start of what will be the 26th annual AHSAA State Soccer Tournament set to be held in Huntsville at the Spencer Sports Complex came during the event's Media Day Luncheon where the usual Huntsville warm welcome and red carpet were extended to all as the 40 teams from across Alabama will converge for the chance to win one of the 10 state championships up for grabs this week.

MADISON – The future is long and bright for one Madison Academy track athlete. Cora Rimes took the Class 4A high jump state championship with a classification state record mark of 5-foot, 2-inches and is poised for an endless future of success in high school track as just an eighth grader in the Class 4A program.

GULF SHORES – “Girl Power” is what led the local athletes at the 102nd AHSAA State Outdoor Track Championships held in Gulf Shores as four state champions, all girls, came from within the four local schools of the immediate areas of Madison.

The top of the list has been crowded, but a clear-cut, top-notch performance now stands taller than all the rest.

MADISON – Summer is now kicking off and promises to be hotter than ever for the Northwest Alabama Fellowship of Christian Athletes with scheduled events for athletes of all ages and depth of spiritual engagement. The FCA will host its annual Summer Sports Camps, Power Sports Camps, and Middle School Power Leadership Conference and complete the summer months with the annual (PTL) High School Power Sports Conference.
