SIDNEY — Sidney was expecting to be undefeated a month into the season. Some of those victories have been harder than anticipated, due to the squad having to learn to play without four-year starting guard Larkyn Vordemark, who suffered a season-ending knee injury on Nov. 27.

The Cardinals finished with a 14-4 scoring edge in the fourth quarter to hand the Raiders a 29-23 loss. Russia led 9-8 at the end of the first quarter, 15-13 at halftime and 19-15 at the end of the third quarter. Francis scored six points and Addison Shappie, who is pictured below passing while pressured by New Bremen’s Allie Bornhorst, scored five. Madi Hoehne also scored six points. The loss broke a four-game winning streak for Russia. The squad lost a tight one on Monday as well, as Kettering Alter won a nonconference 40-37 in Russia. The Raiders led 20-18 at halftime on Monday. Celeste Borchers scored 13 points and Claudia Hoehne scored 11.
