One to One Pharmacy and Wellness owner David McDanel provides a needed service to those who require medication to support their health; however, his ideal is a world in which the majority don’t require prescription drugs to live long and prosper. For many, that ideal is not out of reach, he believes; one need only put into practice lifestyle changes that support wellness.

The uncommon wail of sirens raised the curiosity of Wellman residents on the evening of Thursday, Aug. 22, when first responders arrived on the scene of an accident.

In an environment in which the cost of college education continues to rise and the return on that investment is not a given, and the demand for skilled tradespeople is strong, building trades programs at American high schools are gaining momentum. The Mid-Prairie school board is attuned to this fact and aims to offer their students more opportunities in this regard, and they spent much of their Aug. 26 work session discussing how to go about it.

Vietnam veteran Larry Ritland departed Welsh Church Cemetery, north of Sharon Center, on Tuesday morning, Sept. 3, for a 26-day legacy bicycle ride terminating in Sweetwater, Texas. The purpose of his ride? To pay tribute to women who served as Airforce pilots in WWII (WASPs). His ride began at the grave of Gleanna Roberts, one of two Iowans who lost their lives during the war; it will end at Avenger Field, where the women were trained to fly military aircraft. If you’ve ever struggled to enter the manual doors at Parkside Community Center in Wellman, your experience is about to get easier. The Wellman City Council approved the installation of buttons that will open the doors automatically at their Sept. 3 regular meeting.

Updates to Kalona Valley Apartments, as well as other developments, underway

Seven FFA students, along with advisor Elsa Schmidt, kicked off Monday night’s regular meeting of the Mid-Prairie school board with a presentation on some of the activities they participated in this summer, which most notably included the Iowa State Fair. Twenty-one FFA members showed in many categories, with some students awarded ribbons.
