The Seiko SSK GMT line has slowly taken the watch world by storm, and Seiko took the SKX-style format this year and updated it with a trio of new dial formats. Earlier this year, I wrote a story on what – at the time – was every single existing SKX-style Seiko SSK GMT on the market, but that story is officially out of date.

G-Shock is celebrating a big birthday this year. And much like many industries, it is taking its 40th anniversary as a chance to look to the past, to get nostalgic, to wax digital. The the thing is, where a brand like TAG Heuer can make a statement with the launch of the KITH F1 watches in near ‘80-faithful form, or even Timex can reissue the IronMan in a 1:1 configuration (JDM only, sorry USA), G-Shock is in a bit of tough spot…for a good reason. I think of it like the affordable, digital version of the Speedmaster Moonwatch, a design that has been altered, but in many ways is a watch that has effectively been in uninterrupted production since the 1960s – and we love that.

In 1969, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin took their first steps on the lunar surface wearing Omega Speedmasters. That same year, Omega didn't rest on its laurels. I've made it something of a tradition of my own to look out upon the valley of a fresh year and attempt to predict what we might see when it arrives. Like any predictive work, I end being entirely off base by the time that new year ends. So think of this exercise as one of bold predictions, and also one of things I hope to see happen in the watch industry in 2025.

Another year has come, and so have the Omega releases. Following up on an absolute fury of newness in 2024, Omega kicks off ‘25 with a brand new Speedmaster…truly. This is the Omega Speedmaster Moonphase Meteorite, a new take on the brand's previous outings with the 43mm Moonphase collection.

There are certain brands that get pigeon-holed into an equally certain genre of watches. If you track Breitling in – what I'll call – the modern era (meaning the mid-1980s to today), you'll likely associate the brand with a toolishness that is consistent through watches like the Chronomat, the Aerospace, and the Navitimer. In the mid-aughts, the Superocean also surfed back into the zeitgeist. Breitling is one of those brands that is sneakily (for some, not for me…for me it's not sneaky at all) perhaps the second or third most recognizable name in watches.

It would certainly be the “normal” thing to do to write a string of paragraphs relating a hyper-specific historical anecdote about how, in 1963, a Heuer dashboard clock resided in a Porsche 911 at the Monte Carlo Rally. And how this car, Number 147, was driven by the duo of Herbert Linge (one of the first employees of Porsche in Stuttgart) and Peter Falk (Porsche's Director of Racing Vehicle Development). But I figured I could give you an abridged version in a single graf, and encourage you to dig deeper on your own into what is a fascinating backstory, so that I can focus my attention on how TAG Heuer has honored this historical moment through two limited-edition Carrera models as part of LVMH Watch Week 2025.
