RAPID CITY, S.D.— It was a day of promotions and recognition at the Pennington County Sheriff's Office. Family, friends, and co-workers filled the training room at the Public Safety Building to honor several PCSO employees. About a dozen received promotions between the sheriff's office and the jail. Three Care Campus employees were recognized for saving a life last September. Bryan Schwartz, Lucas Neudhardt and Nicole Williams rendered life safe-saving treatment to a client found in respiratory distress.

RAPID CITY, S.D.— Rapid City has made changes to downtown parking spaces in an attempt to address over-extended vehicles. Earlier in the week crews started re-striping spaces along Main and Saint Joseph Streets. Markings have been added to the end of angled spaces to indicate the point a vehicle extends into traffic. The new markings now stretch from East Boulevard to West Boulevard on both streets.

This year the park welcomes two new attractions.

STURGIS, S.D.— A journey across the state in honor of fallen heroes finished its final leg. Mai Richards made her way into Sturgis Monday afternoon — completing her over 400 mile run. Starting in Sioux Falls back on May 1st — Richards has spent the past 25 days logging miles in honor of fallen service members. She was greeted with cheers as she logged her final steps.

Crews will be busy planting thousands of flowers in city parks and gardens

RAPID CITY, S.D.— Rapid City residents may have noticed cameras going up at intersections along Omaha Street. The city says they're designed to improve traffic flow and monitor roadway conditions — not issue traffic tickets. Last summer the Rapid City Council approved phase one of the Rapid City Video Management project during the 2025-2029 Vision Fund cycle. The city allocated nearly $614,000 for the first phase of the video system. Rapid City Traffic Engineer Matthew Layman says, "Right now it's predominantly the Omaha corridor, but this is going to be, you know, on a lot of our major arterial roadways throughout the city."

The project will add 30 apartments with a total of 52 bedrooms for income-qualifying residents

This led to the creation of Operation Ballistic Backlog with ATF agents assisting to test all the firearms and registering them in the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network, or NIBIN. ATF Assistant Special Agent in Charge St. Paul Field Office Spence Burnett says, "When it finds a match, investigators get a lead. That lead may connect two shootings in the same neighborhood, or it might connect a gun found on Pine Ridge to somewhere else entirely. File offenders move; they don't stay in one place, and the evidence they leave stays there at their crime scene."

In Rapid City alone the average home listing price is between $360k and $370k

RAPID CITY, S.D.— It's shaping up to be a hot week in Rapid City during the America 250 celebration. Temperatures are looking to be on the high side heading into the Independence Day weekend. Knowing that, the Rapid City Fire Department recommends preparing for heat before falling victim to it. According to fire department paramedics heat is the leading weather-related cause of death in the U.S.
