Get ready for a week of summer heat and humidity in central Indiana. Enjoy clear skies and mild temperatures tonight, but expect warmer days ahead.

A mix of clouds and sunshine with warm, muggy conditions returning. Highs reach the mid 80s, with a light northeast breeze around 5 to 10 mph. While there will be plenty of dry time, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop during the afternoon and early evening. This does not look like an all-day washout, but if you’re headed to festivals, youth sports, or spending time on the lake, it will be worth keeping an eye on the sky through the second half of the day. A few storms could become severe and produce locally heavy rain and gusty winds.

Plenty of sunshine is expected, although areas of wildfire smoke overhead may leave the sky looking hazy or somewhat washed out. Once any leftover sprinkles fade, the main overnight concern will be reduced visibility for anyone traveling late tonight or early Sunday morning.

Monday starts warm and muggy with temperatures already in the lower 70s during the morning. Skies will feature a mix of clouds and sunshine, allowing afternoon highs to climb to around 90. Combined with oppressive humidity, heat index values are expected to peak around 100 degrees, making this the hottest day of the forecast. Southwest winds increase to around 10 mph with occasional gusts over 20 mph. Scattered showers and thunderstorms may develop during the afternoon, but there will also be long dry stretches. Any outdoor work or recreation should be planned for the morning if possible, with plenty of water and frequent breaks during the afternoon heat.

Any remaining light showers should fade quickly this evening, with rain chances dropping off after about 8 p.m. Clouds will gradually begin to break apart overnight, although the wet ground left behind from the weekend rain may allow areas of patchy fog to develop after roughly 3 a.m. Temperatures fall into the lower to middle 60s with a light north breeze. Visibility could briefly become reduced in a few low-lying or rural areas toward daybreak, but otherwise the night becomes much quieter.
