Morongo Unified School District is gearing up to celebrate National School Lunch Week from October 15-18, 2024. This year's engaging theme, “School Lunch Pirates: Find Your Treasure,” emphasizes the crucial role of a healthy school lunch in fostering student success both in and out of the classroom.

The Morongo Valley Community Services District Board of Directors will hold their regular 6PM meeting tonight in Covington Park's multipurpose room.

After agency reports, the Board oversaw the presentation of Official Resolution by the California Senate, honoring former Morongo Valley Fire Chief James Brakebill for his 9-years duty at the district and his career in fire service spanning 46 years. The Resolution, read aloud by Octavious Scott (representing Senator Shannon Grove), stated Brakebill “joined the district in 2015 and contributed 6750 hours of volunteer service that ranged from fire chief, special projects manager, fire chief vacation relief, duty officer on weekends and holidays, and the agency representative for the Morongo Valley Fire Department during the Thomas Fire (2017), the Apple and El Dorado Fires (2020), the South Fire (2021), the Fairview Fire (2022), while playing a key role ensuring the department was fully staffed and personnel were properly deployed during those fires.

Students, staff, and the local press gathered at Onaga Elementary yesterday afternoon for the ribbon cutting and demonstration of the flagship Steam Lab, one of five new classrooms in the district dedicated to cutting edge technological learning, including coding and robotics.

The Morongo Valley Community Services District held a special meeting last night in Covington Park's Mesquite Room. Originally slated for the multipurpose room, last night's meeting was moved to the Mesquite Room at the last minute to make room for preparations for tomorrow's election polls.

The San Manuel Band of Mission Indians has made a $100,000 contribution to San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools (SBCSS) Alliance for Education, a donation that will directly support the “Cultivating Innovation in STEM Schools” program for the 2024-2025 academic year.
