On Sunday, July 12, at approximately 1:00 a.m., Scottsboro police officers responded to a disturbance call in the 21000 block of Highway 72 after receiving reports of suspicious activity.

On Wednesday, July 22, the Scottsboro Rotary Club had a meeting where member Jack Lewis shared something personal for the club. He brought a copy of a speech written by his father and spoken by Illinois Congressman Philip Crane.

The Scottsboro Rotary Club held an organizational meeting on Wednesday, July 29. During the meeting, Rotary Club President Maribel Bravo Smith first gave her personal story of how she came to join the Rotary Club. For her, it began when she was born in Mexico while her father was working in the US on a work visa for construction. While he was there, he saw the opportunity available in America and eventually, got his family to move to the US when she was around three years old. Her father also chose Scottsboro as the destination, believing it would be a good place for his children to grow up.

The Scottsboro Police Department recently announced two different drug arrests on Facebook, with the arrests taking place in consecutive days.

The Scottsboro Rotary Club had Jackson County Circuit Court Judge Brent Benson come speak to the club about his work with the drug court, where he originally served as the drug court prosecutor before taking over as the drug court judge a year and a half ago.

The Scottsboro City Council had a city council meeting on Monday, with six items on the agenda.

On Tuesday, members of the Highlands Medical Center and other attendees had the opportunity to hear about caring for veterans from Birmingham Medical Center Veterans Affairs Outreach Coordinator John Pinion at the Highlands Medical Center and As Close As Family Community Resource Lunch and Learn. While speaking to those in attendance, Pinion spoke about VA benefits, how they work, how to handle veterans not signed up for VA benefits as well as some of the benefits offered through the various aspects of the VA. First, Pinion breaks down the VA as three different parts that, while under the VA umbrella, are not necessarily interconnected. He then explains how service connected injuries and medical diseases are applied, using the example of Vietnam veterans and the Agent Orange issue. For Vietnam veterans, simply having proof that they were 12 miles within the coast of Vietnam is enough for certain conditions to fall under Agent Orange. However, for Korea veterans, their primary service connected injuries or diseases fell under cold weather injuries, with Pinion stating that many veterans from the Korean War suffered from hypothermia at points in the conflict. He also mentions that the VA needs to understand just how disabling the issue is, with Pinion noting how many veterans will stubbornly claim to be fine and that the veterans need to be plainly made aware of the importance of pointing out any issues they may have.
