At the August 3 rd Leesburg Town Council Meeting attorney Chad Hopper explained a petition for Leesburg to vacate a portion of Bristow Gap Road. The road concern arose after the sheriff's department built a training facility there. With the increase in traffic, the road needed expansion. The town of Leesburg couldn't financially take on the expense.

The Centre City Council met in a work session August 3 rd . After 15 minutes behind closed doors, the group opened up to the media. Members considered upcoming expenditures, including what to spend in this fiscal year and what to earmark for the next.

Back in April, Building Inspector Raymond Matthews made a request of the city council – hire a permit clerk after the Building Office moves to the new City Hall. Days after the christening of the new City Hall members of the Building Committee took one step closer to making the permit-clerk hire a reality.

At the August 4 th meeting, the Piedmont City Council solidified positions in municipal court, hiring Jesse Moses as prosecutor and keeping Richard Couch as the public defender and Brent Morrison as judge. The group also approved a motion to increase the public defender and prosecutor's pay from $600 to $800 per month.

Along with commending the turnout and effort at Saturday's fundraiser to benefit Fire Chief Steven Kimmons, Mayor Bill Warren commended youth from a local church at the August 10 th council meeting. In conjunction with Serve Cherokee 2026 Cedar Bluff Baptist Youth Leader Kelly Hutchins brought four students to help with litter cleanup at the Kimmons benefit. Warren emphasized what an outstanding job the four youth, Jesse Hutchins, Will Warren, Brady Wheeler, and Serenity Glynn, did in their task.

August 8th the town of Cedar Bluff held a benefit for injured fire chief Steven Kimmons. The gospel singing, hot dog plates, and cake auction not only raised money for the chief and his family, it renewed the spirit of the event's organizers.

At the August 10 th town council meeting Cedar Bluff Police Chief Jeremy Stepps reported on police and fire department activity for the month of July. The police department issued 123 warnings and 85 tickets, conducted 11 misdemeanor and 8 felony arrests, and reported 2 drug cases and 8 ICE arrests. Twenty-one warrants were served, 6 suspects interviewed, and the department had 3 open investigations.

The Family Care Center is inviting teachers and educational professionals from across the area to a special Teacher Appreciation Event on Thursday, August 20, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

At the August 10 th town council meeting Cedar Bluff Mayor Bill Warren explained a proposed trail that would connect all 67 Alabama counties. This walkway would connect local areas like Cherokee Rock Village, Leesburg Landing, the Centre City Park, Cornwall Furnace, and Little River Canyon.

At the August 11 th meeting the Centre City Council approved hiring Aubrie Elder as city clerk. The action comes after the resignation of former city clerk Sherrie Chandler. The council voted to post a position of assistant city clerk and to hire Jennifer Mackey as needed to train Elder.
