With autumn in full swing in the south we’re enjoying afternoon temperatures in the 70s and low 80s. It’s pleasant enough that I can get out in the yard to tackle some of the bigger projects I’ve been putting off. When the heat of summer raises temperatures into the 90s and the humidity is high enough to make air feel like water, I prefer lounging to heat-stroke.

Like many pilots who have had the opportunity to fly a wide assortment of airplanes, I’m occasionally asked, “what’s your favorite airplane?”
I returned home from a quick jaunt to the grocery store the other night to find my mailbox had been assaulted. It’s a good-sized steel box on a solid steel pole. It’s built to take a beating, which it did through no fault of its own.
Christmas means different things to different people. For some it’s the anticipation of waking up to a pile of brightly wrapped gifts under a real pine tree festooned with finery in the living room.
Imagine the reaction if an NFL player said, “I’m good coach. I don’t need to practice this week.” That attitude wouldn’t fly in the big leagues. It shouldn’t fly at the airport either.
On a beautiful morning in the summer of 1968 the nine-year old version of me was enjoying the fresh breeze on my face as I rode my bike with my best friend, Mike.
