The colder than normal pattern has been replaced by a dry and warmer one as high pressure builds over the region. The flow of air will arrive from the south and west around the high, providing us with highs in the low 60s Friday and possibly Saturday.

The past few days the weather conditions have been more reminiscent of early October than mid-November as temps hit the middle and upper 60s. There was a lot of sunshine both Thursday and Friday, but today we will be partly to mostly cloudy. Even with the cloud cover the mercury in the thermometer will rise to the upper 50s to low 60s. Showers are likely to cross interstate 5 in the afternoon, but should run out of gas crossing the Cascades.

The week ahead will be defined by a series of rainy and chilly days with some wintry mix overnight and early each morning. The mountains will see snow off and on all week which has promoted the opening of Mt. Bachelor this Friday to season pass holders. The early snow has also pushed the opening day to November 22

Wednesday will be a very wet day as another wave of moisture pushes in from the Pacific. The region will be dealing with a wave of precipitation and, depending on where you are, it may be rain or snow. The rain will be along the 97 highway and east into Crook County, the snow is likely to be over the Cascades. A mix of rain and snow is a strong possibility in Sisters and La Pine early in the day so prepare for some slick roads if you are traveling or live in those areas.

The winds have been the most noticeable feature as gusts near 40 mph have been common over the area. The rain is persistent and relatively light but a few pockets of moderate rain overnight led to impressive rainfall amounts in the 0.50” range by noon. Rain will continue most of the day, off and on

More snow has fallen on the Cascades and Mt. Bachelor and Mt. Hood Meadows are opening tomorrow. Timberline is already spinning the lifts, so the 2024-25 season is early and the resorts are very excited with the amount of snow this November. Enjoy and stay safe on the mountains this weekend.

A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for late in the weekend, generally for the west facing slopes of the Cascades. Most of the snow will not make it over the mountains and into the 97 Highway cities. There will be rain and a wintry mix though Sunday.
