The mild and dry pattern this week is coming to a close as a wintry and snowy period is about to begin. The skies have been filling with clouds all day ahead of what will be a snowy and dangerous few days. The snow is expected to begin late tonight or early Friday and impact the region.
Heavy snow is in the forecast for the next several days. Snow will begin late tonight and linger into Friday morning. Fresh powder will be waiting for you early in the day, so if you like to ride the snow when it is snowing, tomorrow morning is a good day for you. We are under a Winter Weather Advisory until 4 am for the eastern half of the viewing area. Eastern Jefferson and Deschutes Counties as well as most of Crook County. The snow will accumulate to around 2 – 4” east of the 97 highway, but about an inch or so of snow is likely along 97. Icy roads are a concern as the snow is melting first on the roadways where it is falling, and that will ice up overnight.
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. The Cascades have received several inches of snow over the weekend and we have pushed back above the century mark for base numbers at Timberline, Meadows and Bachelor. The snow will continue off and on all week so each day will bring more powder and fun. The temps are going to be ideal for more of a fluffy snow than a wet as highs will be in the low 20s.
