Hub Group profit and revenue fell in the third quarter of 2024, but intermodal load growth mitigated the damage and the carrier's top executive is becoming more optimistic about the freight environment.

Profit and revenue at Landstar System Inc. fell year-over-year in the third quarter on the back of ongoing weakness in the truckload market.

The truck maker posted net income of $676.6 million, or diluted earnings per share of 83 cents, in Q3, down 35% from $1.033 billion, or $1.22, in the year-ago period. Headquartered in Germany, Daimler Truck reports its earnings in euros and all conversions were correct as of Nov. 7.

Hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles may be envisioned as the future workhorse of a decarbonized North American longhaul freight sector, but the development and adoption of these zero-emission trucks has proceeded at a measured pace.

The addition of Hammond, La.-based Fluker marks the fourth acquisition announced in 2024 by PS Logistics, the latest move in the company's long-term expansion strategy. Since 2016, Birmingham, Ala.-based PS Logistics has acquired 27 trucking operations and five non-asset-based logistics operations in the U.S.

The first customers are set to be carriers operating at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach — the largest two ports in the U.S. by import volume.

TFI International bought truckload and less-than-truckload carrier Keystone Western for an undisclosed sum, the company said in a LinkedIn post.
