It is no secret that I am house proud. I love our old house as if I built her myself. She’s basically a member of the family. I’ve researched her history. I will lovingly point to a circa 1899 patented piece of hardware as if I personally created it. I marvel at the workmanship, and love seeing how things were built. Nonetheless, I swear if I have to renovate this bathroom one more time I am tearing it all down.

Me a week before houseguests arrive: cool, calm, collected. We are just going to be ourselves.

“Mary, Mary, quite contrary how does your garden grow?” I cannot speak for Mary but for myself, the answer is “not well, actually.” I’m more of a grass and weeds sort of gal.

It’s not easy being the empty nest dog of human parents. I like to say that I wasn’t a helicopter mom to my human children, but I definitely am to the canine kids. To say I am obsessed with Nova Grace and Jackson would be an understatement.

The Olympics are dominating the news. This is very exciting. I enjoy seeing the humans that are in peak physical form winning awards as they compete on behalf of their respective countries. The Olympics are, by design, being dominated by youthful, fit, and supremely athletic people. This is all well and good but does this ACTUALLY represent the competing nations as a whole?

It is reported that Mark Twain once famously said “The report of my death was an exaggeration.” I understand.

I spent the first 18 years of my life with much exposure to a woman who had an Edwardian childhood and a very educated life. As a result, I am fluent in ancient language. I use a lot of words that Google says are now defined as “archaic.”

I knew we weren’t cut out for drama when the most exciting thing that happened on a recent weekend was that the sofa ate the television remote. I can’t prove it, but the clues are clear.
