There is no doubt political violence is a horrific stain on American democracy and assassination an abomination. But when you've covered politics on and off as long as I have, and you think you've seen or heard it all … you haven't.

Donald Trump's speech Thursday begs a comparison to the late radio show host's famous 1978 “So God made a farmer” speech, which got new life in a 2013 Super Bowl ad.

Sneed is told President Joe Biden was actually warned a year and a half ago by a top top Dem pollster that his re-election was in the doghouse with young voters. Gov. J.B. Pritzker was being urged to run in a primary in case Biden pulled the plug.

Back in 1967, the old Cook County Coroner’s office, a.k.a. the “Morgue,” was located at 1828 W. Polk Street. Then novice reporter Michael Sneed got a tour she remembers to this day. The lights were flicked on and off to allow her to view the grim and dark cubicles.

I was a street reporter for the old City New Bureau in 1968. Battalions of anti-Vietnam war protesters were marching on our city streets, and blood was flowing. Some of us watched in real time the marching of hippies, Yippies, women's libbers and anti-Vietnam war vets morph into mayhem.

CBS News legend Mike Wallace was arrested during the Democratic Convention in Chicago in 1968. It happened when he was reporting on a scuffle over a delegate's credentials. But one of the arresting officers' widows tells Sneed, “The mayor was very upset that he [Wallace] was bad mouthing his city, so he wanted him arrested and removed from the floor.”

An elite volunteer corps of therapy dogs is being dispatched to soothe federal, state, and city law enforcement agencies waiting to handle any emergencies that occur during the Democratic National Convention.

“It's finally our time,” the first lady said. “The Democratic National Convention my husband fought so hard to bring to Chicago has become a huge celebration of women!”
