How do you mourn someone you didn’t even know? Daniel (Richard Gere) learns from ex girlfriend Rachel (Suzanne Clément) that she was pregnant with their child when they were together 20 years ago. She’s contacting him now because the child in question, Allen (Tomaso Sanelli), has passed away in a car accident. Daniel made it blatantly clear to her that he never wanted children, that’s why she never told him.

If you like Groundhog Day type movies, you'll probably enjoy this one.

When I was an undergraduate, I had a bit of an obsession with Anne Boleyn – a fascinating woman who manipulated her way into a powerful position, who then made the grave mistake of underestimating her powerful husband. I think out of all King Henry VIII’s wives, she is the most known, along with Catherine of Aragon. Katherine Parr, the 6th wife of King Henry, is not as widely spoken about. This movie is about her time as Regent, while Henry was off fighting the French. The movie is based on the book by Elizabeth Fremantle titled Queen’s Gambit – the name was changed probably to avoid confusion with the Netflix TV series.

The quality of the storytelling has taken a dip this season.

A Family Affair is Netflix’s answer to Amazon Prime’s The Idea of You. Older woman, younger man in the spotlight, they fall in love, and her daughter is impacted by it. The problem is, while The Idea of You has romantic leads with chemistry, A Family Affair is devoid of spark and charm. I never thought that I would find myself bored with actors like Nicole Kidman and Zac Efron on my screen, but that’s exactly what happened.

A movie about cults needs to get under our skin a little more.

This time last year, we had the whole Barbenheimer spectacle to look forward to. While there are some heavyweight entries this July, there’s nothing quite on the level of having the pleasure of watching Barbie and Oppenheimer in quick succession. Still, there’s quite a number of options for horror fans, as well as a comic book movie that everyone’s been anticipating.

I won’t go as far as to say that Longlegs is the scariest movie of the decade or even the scariest movie you’ll see this year. But it’s certainly unsettling, and will leave you thinking about it long after it’s over.

What does a disaster movie need? Characters to root for, terrifying spectacle, and for the audience to feel tension up to our eyeballs. Twisters delivers on some of the above, but it’s not nearly as good as the original film, and no, that’s not nostalgia talking.

As a Millennial, we grew up in an age without the smartphones we have now. My first phone had an antenna, and I used it mainly to call and text. If we wanted music, we had Limewire, MTV, the radio and burned CDs that we made using Windows Media Player. We ended up watching so many movies mainly because that was one of our main sources of entertainment. My family would go to the cinema together nearly every week, and trips to the movies with my friends were always a part of our after-school outings.
