Swinging Good Times

One of the fun parts of my job is ordering replacement parts for old equipment. Last week at Hampshire Park, the “circle swing” swung into action after a thorough test by the maintenance crew. Another new swing for toddlers was also added and it takes the shape of something commonly seen on River Road – a tractor. Another new addition is a doggy poop station offering a waste receptacle and poop bags for our four-legged friends.

The Old Jail, better known as the Parks & Recreation office is loaded with goodies for this Saturday. For the past month, we have been working hard to set up an event that encourages fun for the family. There are 7 different prize games for the youngsters. There is a cornhole tournament for the adults. There is a 3-on-3 basketball tournament. All those events start at 10 a.m.

The 9th annual Day in the Park was a smashing success as sunshine and smiling faces scattered across Hampshire Park on Saturday. The kids had a great time winning prizes and playing games, while the adults had some fun competing in the cornhole tournament and the first ever Pickleball Home Run Derby.

Frightening Fun Run

On Saturday, Oct. 12, goblins, ghouls, witches and werewolves gathered at Capon Bridge Middle School to compete in the Zombie Run. Runners encountered delightful frights as skeletons, ghosts and scary sounds dotted the running course. Sponsored by HCPR, nearly $1,000 was raised for the CBMS Math Department as dozens of costumed creatures participated in two contests: the less scary Willow Loop and the scarier 2-miler on Killer Hill. The next fun run in the CBMS 5K race series is the Santa Run on Saturday, Dec. 7. Follow Hampshire County Parks and Recreation on Facebook for more updates and pictures from each fun run.
