President Richard Nixon greets Thomas J. “Jim” Kinsman during his Medal of Honor ceremony in 1969. At 9 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, members of the Onalaska High School National Honor Society will host the school’s Veterans Day assembly inside the school’s gymnasium located at 540 Carlisle Ave. in Onalaska. During the ceremony, family members of U.S. Army Specialist Fourth Class Thomas Kinsman will be presented with a plaque honoring him. Kinsman, an Onalaska High School graduate, was awarded the Medal of Honor in 1969 after he jumped on a grenade while on patrol near Vinh Long, Vietnam, in 1968. He survived and ended up moving back to Toledo, where he lived until he died in 2017. Veterans, their families and friends are all invited to attend.
