Graduation rates for Liberty County students surpassed state targets and state averages for 2024, school board members learned.

City Manager Kenneth Howard presented council members with an after action review following Hurricane Helene, which knocked out power throughout the city and Liberty County. And city leaders also are looking at how they can better help residents when such items as food and water run scarce after a disaster.

A Liberty County man serving 25 years for a 2012 stabbing death was found dead at his prison over the weekend, according to reports. Travon Walthour, who was serving a voluntary manslaughter sentence for the 2012 stabbing death of Terry Floyd Jr., reportedly was killed Sunday at Hancock State Prison in east Georgia.
