It was a hot day in the Treasure Valley with highs reaching 97 degrees. This broke the old record of 95 degrees set back in 1944. It looks like we have one more toasty day on tap for Western Idaho as we continue a southwest flow across much of the region. Look for hazy sunshine with highs in the low 90's. A significant change is expected on Wednesday as a trough of low pressure moves in from the Pacific Northwest. This will definitely bring cooler temperatures to the entire region and maybe some showers to the valley late Wednesday and early Thursday. The mountains will have a better chance of showers on both days.

A significant change is expected over Western Idaho on Monday and Tuesday as a Pacific storm moves in. While the majority of the storm will pass south of us into Nevada, the northern piece of the storm will still generate periods of rain for the Treasure Valley along with some isolated thunderstorms. I think Tuesday will see the greatest potential for rain as the center of the low will be at the closest point to our location. We'll also see cooler than normal temperatures with highs near 70 degrees on Monday and mid 60's on Tuesday.

A storm is currently rotating through Nevada. This is energizing the atmosphere across the southern half of Idaho, much of Nevada and Oregon. There have been numerous thunderstorms causing power outages, concerns of flash flooding over burn scars and wind gusts to 60 mph. This very unsettled pattern will continue with occasional rain and thunderstorms through the first half of Tuesday. Temperatures will remain cooler than normal over the next few days. Highs will drop into the mid-60s on Tuesday. Drier conditions will likely return to the region as the low moves away on Wednesday. Once we get into the dry pattern, sunny to partly cloudy skies should continue through the weekend.

Two weeks after Helene impacted the entire southeast corner of the country, we now have Hurricane Milton. This storm went from 90 mph winds on Sunday to having explosive intensification with the wind jumping to 180 mph this afternoon. This is now the third strongest wind recorded in the Gulf of Mexico behind the 190 mph wind of Hurricane Allen in 1980 and the Great Labor Day Hurricane of 1935 with 185 mph.

After weeks of sunny skies and warmer than normal temperatures, our pattern is about to change as a significant low pressure system moves in from the Pacific Ocean. The cold front will sweep into the Treasure Valley around noon tomorrow. This will bring showers and breezy to windy conditions that will last through the afternoon. Highs will only reach the mid 60's. That will be about 15 degrees cooler than today.

Our weather pattern is about to undergo a significant change this week as a series of fronts are poised to move in from the northwest. At first, temperatures will remain mild under the influence of a southwest flow. However, by the end of the week temperatures will begin to drop and snow levels will begin to lower. While I don't expect to see any snow accumulation in the Treasure Valley, I do expect to see a healthy amount of snow in the mountains by the end of next weekend. Here's how things could play out this week keeping in mind that there will be minor alterations in this forecast as the steering mechanism for the storm will fluctuate.
