Bengali cinema is set for a spotlight moment at the 17th Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM), with a line-up that spans contemporary drama, restored classics and short films. The selection, organisers say, reflects the region’s literary depth and its enduring pull on Indian storytelling.Leading the roster is Adamya, alongside Biye Fiye Niye, Maya Satya Bhram (Illusion of Truth and Delusion), Pinjar (The Cage) and Porshi (Neighbours) – five films that move between identity, relationships and social realities.

Theatre personality Sohag Sen’s 80th birthday was celebrated with fanfare and artistic performances at a city hotel on Thursday evening, hosted by interdisciplinary artiste and actor Sujoy Prasad Chatterjee. The evening opened with Rabindrasangeet by Prakriti Mukherjee from Shantiniketan, followed by poet Joy Goswami reading Nandor Ma, written for Rituparno Ghosh’s Shob Charitro Kalponik, capturing the character portrayed by Sen.
