Tony Hale, known for his quirky, comedic roles like Buster Bluth in “Arrested Development” and the Vice President’s assistant Gary Walsh in “Veep,” threw out the first pitch at Citizens Bank Park on Wednesday.

“Father Comes Home From the Wars” runs at Quintessence Theater through June 23. It’s a play inspired by “The Odyssey” that follows a Black man called “Hero” through his journey from a Texas plantation to the Civil War battlefront and back home.

You’ve likely heard Dorothy sing about going somewhere over the rainbow, but People’s Light Theatre in Malvern is taking audiences down a different kind of yellow brick road with “Somewhere Over the Border.”

“One Monkey Don’t Stop No Show” runs Aug. 22-25. It’s a comedy about a middle-class African American family living in Philadelphia in the 1970s, whose lives are turned upside down when their niece, Beverley, comes up from the south to live with them.

“Hidden,” getting its world premiere next month with M7 Productions at Gratz College Theater, is the story of Jenkintown resident Ruth Kapp Hartz’s childhood spent in hiding in France during World War II.

A new part of Philadelphia’s Fringe Festival, Black Circus Week, which runs from September 6 through 11, features artists in a small but mighty community.

The Philadelphia Fringe Festival opens with some big news for the theater community. FringeArts, the organization behind the festival, has announced new leadership. Nell Bang-Jensen will take over as CEO and producing director starting Oct. 15.

“Robin and Me: My Little Spark of Madness” runs Oct. 9 - 27 at Hedgerow Theatre in Media, Delaware County. It stars Dave Droxler, who portrays actor Robin Williams as his childhood imaginary friend.

The immersive performance, which runs through Halloween, is a sequel to the show Gunnar Montana produced last fall about a coven of witches. “It just feels like a really fun, queer extravaganza in a dark world,” he said.

The national tour of “Hamilton” arrived in Philadelphia, just in time for the presidential election — bringing with it a University of the Arts grad, Phillip Deceus, who’s in the ensemble.
