Designer Tania Cassill of huit design was ready for a new beginning. After a divorce and with her two older kids out of the house, she was looking for a home that she could call completely her own and that would suit both her and her dog’s needs. “I had been looking for the perfect little fixer-upper that I could fill with all of my most favorite finishes and finds,” she says.

Every year 1-800-Flowers announces both a flower and plant of the year, and they chose two classic favorites for 2025. The flower of the year is the delicate ranunculus and the plant of the year is the easy-to-care-for snake plant.

These days, most people make their inspiration boards on Pinterest or Canva, but designer Keri Lainas, owner and principal design of Keri Michelle Interiors, had clients who went analog. “This client is the only client who has ever provided me with actual inspiration images cut out of print magazines, which was so endearing because usually I only receive inspiration photos via Pinterest or email,” she says.

We tapped interior design experts and asked them about which trends they loved this year… and which ones they’d rather not see in 2025.

It was another banner year for design, and we were lucky enough to get the opportunity to showcase some truly stunning and unique homes across the West. There was the 1,000-square-foot cottage in Maui designed to accommodate a wheelchair. The iconic Cliff May house in Coronado that was reimagined for 21st century living. And of course, the luxury trailer whose design could rival most homes without wheels.

The kitchen in a 2,049-square-foot condo in Oakland was not an inviting space. It was dated, with a ‘70s feeling (and not in a good way). There was tan linoleum flooring with a black diamond pattern, lots of beige coloring, dated whitewashed wood cabinetry, tiled countertops, white appliances, and a lack of good storage and lighting.
