The light snow has mostly come to an end, leaving behind just a few occasional flurries that will continue through Sunday night. In the Mankato/North Mankato area, snowfall totals were minimal, with only a dusting reported. Areas to the south and west received even less, while a half inch to around an inch of snow fell north of a line from Owatonna to Glencoe to Hutchinson to Willmar.

Frigid conditions continue today, but a warm-up is on the horizon. After another bitterly cold day today, temperatures will climb into the upper 20s by Wednesday and the upper 30s Thursday and Friday. Some places, especially those along and south of I-90, could reach 40 degrees later this week. Unfortunately, this mild stretch will be short-lived as another Arctic wave crashes in late this weekend, dropping highs to near or even below zero and creating dangerously cold wind chill well into next week.

Temperatures are going to climb for the next several days ahead of our next Arctic blast that will send us back into the deep freeze. Highs will reach the upper 20s today with mid to upper 30s likely on Thursday and Friday. Some places could even reach 40 degrees on Friday afternoon. By Saturday morning, our next wave of bitterly cold Arctic air will arrive, and this cold snap will be even colder and last longer than the one we just had.

Temperatures will continue to climb through Friday, followed by a great big Arctic smackdown that will bring the coldest temperatures we’ve had so far this winter season. The weather team has declared Sunday, Monday and Tuesday First Alert days due to dangerously cold, below zero temperatures and wind chill values potentially dropping to between -30 and -40 degrees. Temperatures will remain below zero from late Saturday night through Tuesday afternoon, with gradual warming through the last half of next week. Other than the cold, there is still no sign of significant snow or major systems in the foreseeable future.

Get ready for some big-time cold as a brutally cold Arctic air mass moves into the region this weekend, bringing an extended stretch of below-zero temperatures. This will not only be the coldest air of the winter so far but could also be the coldest cold snap since February of 2023. Temperatures will begin to drop with the passage of a cold front this evening and will continue to drop through Saturday into Sunday. Morning lows will fall into the teens below zero, with temperatures remaining below zero from late Saturday night through Tuesday afternoon. In addition, dangerously cold wind chills of -30 to -40 will be possible during the nighttime and early morning hours. Temperatures will slowly rebound next week.

The coldest temperatures of this Arctic blast are set to arrive tonight, with lows dipping to 15 degrees below zero or colder and wind chills as low as -40. Relief is on the horizon as a gradual warm-up begins Tuesday, but extreme cold warnings remain in effect for much of the region through Tuesday morning.

Temperatures are on the rise after last night’s frigid lows, with highs reaching the mid to upper 20s by Wednesday. Light snow or flurries are possible tonight and Wednesday, but amounts will be minimal as calm, mild weather continues.

Southern Minnesota endured its coldest stretch of weather in three years, with temperatures staying below zero for 96 consecutive hours. The cold snap ended on January 21st with a morning low of 19 degrees below zero.

Temperatures will continue to climb throughout the duration of the 10 Day Forecast; however, recovery from this past weekend’s bitter cold spell will pause momentarily tonight and tomorrow with the passage of a cold front. This front will bring a few scattered light snow showers through this evening, followed by colder temperatures on Thursday. By daybreak Thursday, temperatures will drop to around or just below zero, with highs only reaching the low teens Thursday afternoon. After that, temperatures will continue to climb, with highs in the 20s this weekend and upper 30s to near 40 degrees possible by the middle of next week. Long-range models continue to lack significant weather through the 10 Day Forecast period. Just dry and relatively mild weather ahead.
