To expand its mobile care services, it is requesting financial support and in-kind donations of ophthalmology and optometry equipment, as well as new or lightly used eyeglasses from the philanthropic community. One example is Dr. Thomas J. Schaperkotter, an optometrist who served the communities of Charlevoix and St. Ignace for 47 years, has donated his entire suite of modern optometry equipment and nearly 600 pairs of high-quality frames to ECFD.

The 12th Annual Above & Beyond Awards Ceremony, hosted by the Detroit Public Safety Foundation (DPSF), took place on Nov. 13 at Ford Field in downtown Detroit. The event, themed “A Blue Tie Affair,” honored members of the Detroit Police Department and Detroit Fire Department. DPSF is the official nonprofit organization supporting the Detroit Police and Fire departments with grant funding, contributions, in-kind donations, and events. Among the awards presented were the Medal of Valor, Purple Heart, Emergency Medical Merit, and Public Safety Distinguished Service.
