On Saturday, October 12, the Al Smith Memorial XC Invitational was held at Aftermath Farm in Hurt. Schools participating were: Altavista Combined School, Brookville, Gretna, Heritage, and Rustburg with more than 100 runners. Medals were given to the top ten finishers.

On Sunday, Appomattox held its 31st Annual Christmas Parade in the downtown area. The weather was cold and felt like Christmas. There were 60 entries, including EMS vehicles, Appomattox Marching Band, floats, horses, antique vehicles, dancers, youth sports teams, motorcycles, jeeps, and of course Mr. and Mrs. Santa.

On a cold Friday night, November 22, Altavista On Track hosted the 2024 annual Downtown Tree Lighting ceremony event before the Campbell County Public Library System's Santa at the Library Altavista event from 6 to 8 p.m.

For more than 20 years, local graphic artist Dwayne Marshall used his talents to create the holiday decor inside local shopping malls. Today, as the owner of the newly opened Chick-fil-A on Timberlake Road, he has once again added that same creative touch in his restaurant dining room by creating a festive "Winter Wonderland" similar to those same holiday scenes from the mall days back in the 80s and 90s.

Levi and Wyatt Wade are helping pass out meals on this joyous Thanksgiving.

On Sunday evening from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Liberty Baptist Church, located at 1709 Church Street, Appomattox, presented Celebrate Christmas at Liberty with "Christmas Time Is Here.” There was something for everyone.

On Friday evening of Dec. 13, T&C Promotions brought back singer/songwriter Jimmy Fortune to Appomattox County High School for a Christmas concert.

On Saturday, December 21, the Altavista Police Department hosted the annual Shop with a Cop program at Walmart in Altavista. This program started in 2016 in Altavista. This year there were 72 participants. There were smiles on volunteers, children, and parents' faces. The children were from the Altavista and Hurt area. After checking in they were paired up with a volunteer and off to shop they went.

The Appomattox varsity boys basketball team traveled to Brookville High School in Lynchburg on Friday, Dec. 27 and Saturday, Dec. 28 to participate in the Brookville Stinger Shootout.
