LANETT — Travelers stopping at the Alabama Welcome Center this week have been treated to some Sweet Home Alabama Christmas spirit by the Welcome Center staff. Visitors passing the main counter inside the center have had admire the creativity that went into the miniature displays on the counter. There are versions of a vintage Christmas village remindful of visits to grandmother's house, a winter wonderland with skiers speeding down slopes to an Alpine-style village, and a gingerbread town with a police car, jail and hospital (in case anyone ran afoul of the law). There's also a huge poinsettia on the counter that was brought there by Lee Maples.

WEST POINT — State Representative Bob Fincher was the guest speaker at last week's meeting of the West Point Rotary Club. He has represented House District 37 in the Alabama Legislature for the past ten years.

LANETT — In its final regular meeting of the current calendar year, the Lanett City Council on Monday approved an annual contract with the Chattahoochee Humane Society, agreed to spend some federal American Rescue funds to pay a line of credit with Renasant bank, approved a sewer needs study and took action on three public nuisances.

VALLEY — Ray Edwards' annual Christmas stocking distribution began Wednesday morning and will continue through Friday. A total of 462 stockings will be delivered to local homebound seniors or given away at local senior centers. Edwards and family members have been doing this for more than three decades now. He started it when he was serving on the Valley City Council and is now continuing it as he's serving as board chairman of the Alabama Department of Senior Services.
