WEST POINT LAKE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' West Point Project is now accepting discarded Christmas trees for recycling at three locations near West Point Lake. This will be taking place through January 7, 2025.

WEST POINT — The year 2025 marks a significant anniversary for the local area. It's the 50th year for West Point Dam and Lake, and the Project Management Office is planning a mid-June program to celebrate it.

LANETT —In its first meeting of the new year, the Lanett City Council on Monday approved resolutions to purchase a new ambulance for Lanett Fire & EMS, to upgrade the traffic signal at the junction of Highway 29 and First Street and to remove the one at Highway 29 and South 10th Street, to participate in the February 21-23 Severe Weather Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday and announced a proclamation in support of January being Human Trafficking Awareness and Prevention Month.

VALLEY — The owner and operator of the Blue Skies Above Flight School at the Lanett Regional Airport was the guest speaker at the Monday meeting of the Valley Lions Club. Matthew Bourguignon talked about the rapid growth being experienced by the flight school, how much fun it was to have had a fly over with Santa Claus just before the Valley Wide Christmas Parade and an upcoming Young Eagles Rally that will be taking place at Lanett Regional on Saturday, January 25th.

VALLEY — In its first meeting of the new year on Monday, the Valley City Council approved two ordinances, one to annex some property near Exit 77 on I-85 and another to extend a contract.

VALLEY — Dr. Brenton Jones of West Point Family Chiropractic was the guest speaker at Wednesday's noon hour meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Valley. It was something of a show-and-tell demonstration. He brought with him a scale model of the human spine and a large, framed illustration of how having a good posture promotes good health.

VALLEY — The Valley City Council met in a 6 p.m. work session on Thursday to discuss financials for the first quarter of fiscal year 2024-25, which began on October 1st.

The Winter program of the Chattahoochee Valley Historical Society (CVHS) will be held virtually at 3 p.m. EST on Sunday, January 26th. LANETT — The Lanett Fire Department lost an important leader with the death of Johnny Allen back in August. The department will be losing another important leader with the retirement of its interim chief at the end of the month. Jamie Heard will be leaving the city on January 31st. He's been with the department for the better part of 20 years.

LANETT — Located in Lanett's Jackson Heights neighborhood, Ebenezer Baptist Church on Monday played host to a 10 a.m. EST Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration. Despite sub-freezing temperatures, a packed house was on hand to take part in singing, prayer, listening to devotionals and poetry reading, taking in a performance by a youth praise team and remarks by speaker of the day Rev. Dr. Melvin Owens.
