If you walked into 27 Cafe in Catskill, bought a coffee, and then walked out and continued on with your day, you might never realize there’s an all-red (brick-walled and velvet-carpeted) listening room in the back. Although the music, which sounds like it could play in a club in Maspeth, Queens that serves orange wine, might tip you off. For the full 27 Cafe experience, stay a while, first with a coffee in the front room, and then in the listening room, with either that same coffee or a glass of wine. When we visited, we asked the person behind the counter what time they started selling wine and they stared at us blankly for a while, then informed us they had never decided, because nobody had ever asked for wine too early. Makes perfect sense.
