Columbus will travel to Van Buren on Monday for a basketball double header. The Columbus boys are 6-8 on the year and 4-7 in the conference. In their last game they had a 74-51 win over Highland. Ellis Hills-Carrier led the way with 22 points. The Wildcats jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter 21-17. The game was still close in the second as Columbus only had a nine point lead going into half 43-34. Columbus closed out the gap in the second half by outsourcing the Huskies 31-17 to win their fifth game of the season. In the 2024/2025 season, the Wildcats are scoring 47.4 points per game. They are fifth in the conference in shooting percentage with 33.3% along with fifth at the 3 point line at 25.5%. The Wildcats average 30 rebounds per game, which is third in the conference. Columbus averages two blocks per game, which is also top five in the conference. Individually, Ellis Hills-Carrier is averaging 15.8 points per game.

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams are back on the floor tonight against West Branch in a River Valley Conference twin-bill. The Mid-Prairie boys are 10-2 on the year, 5-1 in the River Valley

The Hillcrest Academy Raven boys and girls basketball teams are back inside the friendly confines of Hillcrest Union for a Superconference showdown with Wapello Tuesday. The Hillcrest girls are 6-8 this year and 4-7 in conference after a 63-43 win over Winfield-Mt. Union Friday where Claire Withrow scored 23, Niva Helmuth 13 and Malia Yoder 10. This season, the Ravens score and give up 48 poins per night, shooting 33% from the floor, 26% from three and 49% at the line with 34 rebounds, 16 steals, 11 assists and 25 turnovers per game. Individually, Withrow leads at 16 points per game, Delaney Shaw pulls in 10 boards and Malia Yoder has five steals and four assists per night. Head coach Chris Nachtigall joined the KCII Postgame Show Friday after their win over WMU to talk about the team's recent success.

Celebration of life services with a time of informal sharing for 74-year-old Stanley Dean Dorsch will be at 1p.m. Sunday, January 26th at the Jones Eden Funeral Home in Washington. Interment will be at Elm Grove Cemetery at a later date. Donations can be made to the Speech Therapy Department at the University of Iowa or Washington Community School District.

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams swept away their River Valley Conference rivals from West Branch in a pair of games heard on KCII Tuesday.

Funeral services for 84-year-old Roger L. Reed of Washington will be held Tuesday, January 28th at 10:30a.m. at the Jones Eden Funeral Home in Washington. Family will be present to receive friends beginning at 9:30a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Oregon Township Cemetery near Ainsworth. Memorials have been established for the Halcyon House Good Samaritan Fund or Sonshine Ministries.
