How should Australia be preparing students for new technologies? It's an issue governments and educators are grappling with across the world. American expert in the field, Professor Jessica Rosenberg from George Mason University, has been developing a school curriculum to encourage more young people to engage on quantum technologies. She's also keen to see more girls and women in the field. During her visit to Australia she sat down with Chief Political Correspondent Anna Henderson to discuss the quantum task ahead.

The treasurer also said Australians are paying a "hefty price" for the war in the Middle East, but pushed back on recession fears.

Anthony Albanese has defended the government's decision not to increase the tax on Australia's gas exports, dismissing recent calls from pressure groups for a 25 per cent rate as a "slogan".

Opposition leader Angus Taylor says a Coalition government would remove 75,000 visa overstayers from Australia. In his budget reply, he also announced that non-citizens will be blocked from accessing 17 welfare programs. One Nation says Angus Taylor has copied its migration policy. SBS Chief Political Correspondent Anna Henderson asked Mr Taylor whether he's moving further to the right to try to court One Nation voters.

Greens leader Larissa Waters says the federal government should be setting out to build more public and affordable housing similar to the way previous governments used to build large-scale public housing estates. Senator Waters says housing affordability demands bold reform but says the federal government changes to property taxes in the Budget amounts to tinkering around the edges. SBS Chief Political Correspondent Anna Henderson asked her whether the Greens will back the changes to negative gearing and capital gains.

As the Liberal Party loses voters to One Nation, Taylor has played down the idea of expanding the coalition to include it.
