It's a good idea to throw on warm layers, grab your umbrella and plan on giving yourself extra time to get where you're going or to avoid traveling at all as you get ready to head out the door Friday. A stronger area of low pressure off the coast will track through the West Coast from Friday through Saturday, and that will bring heavier rain and snow, and stronger southeast winds to northern California through Saturday evening. A Winter Storm Warning is set to stay in effect in the Sierra, southern Cascades and Shasta County Mountains through 10pm Saturday. Areas of Trinity and Siskiyou Counties will also be under a Winter Storm Warning from 8am Friday through 4pm Saturday. The Winter Storm Warnings are prompted by snowfall heavy enough to cause major travel impacts paired with strong south winds Friday into Saturday. Snow levels will be down to around 3000' in the Northern Mountains, and down to as low as 4000' in the Sierra. A Wind Advisory has now been issued for the valley from 10pm Friday through noon Saturday due to sustained southeast winds to 25mph and the potential for gusts up to 50mph during that time. Power outages and travel impacts will be possible due to the winds. We had a break from the showers for most of our region overnight, but heavier rain and snow will quickly spread across our entire region through mid morning Friday. Even heavier rain and snow is expected late today through early Saturday. Temperatures are starting out in the 40's to low 50's in the valley, 30's to 40's in the foothills, and 20's to mid 30's in our mountain zones this morning. Southeast winds to 25mph and gusts up to 50mph will be possible tonight. High temperatures will climb into the low to mid 50's in the valley, 30's to mid 40's in the foothills, and 30's to low 40's in our mountain zones Friday afternoon.
