Robert F. Kennedy Jr. isn't doing so well in the polls. Standing at just 7% in a three-way matchup with Donald Trump and Kamala Harris and 5.6% in a five-way that includes the Green Party's Jill Stein and independent Cornel West, RFK Jr. has been all but forgotten by voters. But he's in it to win it, he says, and he still has a plan to defeat both Trump and Harris. Tough talk aside, however, he has reportedly put the feelers out to both major party contenders, presumably seeking a Cabinet appointment in return for his endorsement. And that certainly sounds like a man looking for an off-ramp.

After independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. suspended his presidential campaign, he moved forward with a simple plan. Withdraw from the ten battleground states in which he might act as a spoiler and cost former President Donald Trump (who he is now actively supporting) the election but remain in states that aren't really up for grabs either way. It's a have your cake and eat it too, kind of situation. If RFK Jr. can send most of his voters to Trump – and maybe even drum up a few more in the process – he might be able to prevent Vice President Kamala Harris from winning that shorter but more powerful title. And it even leaves him a long-shot possibility of taking the White House himself! But there's just one problem.

The Harris campaign says Donald Trump will ban abortion nationwide if elected in November. Likewise, Democrats claim he doesn't want women to have the right to in vitro fertilization (IVF). Meanwhile, the man himself says he would not support a nationwide ban on either abortion or IVF. On the contrary, he's now advocating IVF be paid for by either the government or insurance companies. Would a second-term President Trump endorse a federal prohibition on either, or is this claim merely a straw man designed to frighten voters?

It's that time of year again. Government spending must be reapproved for another year. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) plans to offer a six-month continuing resolution to fund the government at near-current levels until March. But there's a catch – to pass the CR, Democrats will also have to pass a voter ID law. It's a plan one might call clever if it had much chance of success. But, of course, it doesn't.
