A native of Chicago, Cook lived the final 45 years of his life in Kansas City. He graduated from Marquette University, Milwaukee, with a bachelor’s degree in economics and from Loyola University in Chicago with a master’s degree in human resources and labor relations. Before joining Interstate Bakeries, Cook was an associate dean of students at Loyola and personnel manager for McDonald’s Corp in Oak Brook, Ill.
