Episode 1 of Changing Ends begins in Northampton in 1986. Young Alan is calling for his friend Charlie Hudson but the boy's mother says he isn't in. Moments later, she closes the door on his face. Inside, a woeful Charlie waves at Alan.

Episode 2 of Changing Ends Season 1 begins in Alan's home. He hears an ice cream van outside and excitedly runs out to get a treat. Sadly, he's too late to get an ice cream as the van drives away with him running after it.

Episode 3 of Changing Ends Season 1 begins in Alan's home. He has a black eye. How did he get this injury? A flashback ensues.

Episode 4 of Changing Ends Season 1 begins in a car park. Graham and Ron are waiting to meet the new player who is being transferred to the Cobblers football team. In the back of the car is Alan who is birdwatching. Moments later, their new player, Adam, arrives on the scene. He's in a rough state and, according to Alan, “stinks of fags and booze.”

Episode 5 of Changing Ends Season 1 begins at Alan's home. It's BCG jab day so Alan doesn't want to go to school. He tells his parents he doesn't feel well and that he's having the day off. His dad isn't buying his excuse but he is forced to give Alan a day off school when his son pretends a trophy has hit him on the head and given him concussion.

Episode 6 of Changing Ends Season 1 begins at Alan's school. There is a sense of optimism in the air as the Cobblers are finally doing well. This might also mean an end to some of the bullying that Alan endures.
