A fire in Yucca Valley was put out without injury, though there was damage to the property.

The National Park Foundation announced Monday that it had received a 100-million dollar gift from the Lilly Endowment. The non-profit fundraising arm of the National Park Service says that the gift will help pay for programs that enhance the National Park system, such as creating opportunities for young people to visit the parks, conserving threatened ecosystems and wildlife, and tell a more comprehensive version of U.S. History.

Joshua Tree has a housing problem, and the explosion of short-term rentals has removed hundreds of single-family homes from the market that were previously sold or rented to residents. While many of those vacation homes have returned to the market as furnished rentals, affordable housing remains out of reach for many locals. A developer is planning to add 64 homes to a piece of property in Joshua Tree, and tonight they are holding a community session to field questions and comments about it.

Fifteen minutes before the 6pm meeting on Thursday, there was already a line snaking outside the Joshua Tree Community Center where a presentation was being prepped by the LoveMore Group about the “LoveMore Ranch,” a name given to the planned development on an 18 and a half acre lot that sits at 61650 Alta Loma Dr.

The Town of Yucca Valley has canceled tonight's (September 3) regularly scheduled meeting of the Town Council. The Town issued a statement saying that the meeting was canceled due to a lack of scheduled agenda items.

The developers behind the planned LoveMore Ranch 64-home development are holding an Instagram Live session as a follow-up to the community meeting they held last week. Founder Axel Cramer will be doing an “ASK ME ANYTHING” and will be answering all additional questions that the group received. The Instagram announcement says that the goal is to “provide additional space to provide information about the LoveMore project.”

Stargazers who want to take a bit of a drive can go to the Lucerne Valley Branch Library's Observatory Inaugural Event this Saturday, September 7th from 6 to 9pm. According to the Lucerne Valley Unified School District, the library observatory is a joint project of retired NASA Astronaut Dr. Jose Hernandez and the company he founded, Tierra Luna Engineering, and the County of San Bernardino.

The Covington Park Community Room's air conditioning struggled to keep up with the standing-room only crowd that gathered on Thursday to listen and talk to the Bureau of Land Management. They are considering granting a 30 year lease to InterConnect – a company that builds giant communication towers. The one they are proposing for land in Morongo Valley would nearly 200 feet tall, require solar panels, an access road, fencing, and other not-so-natural developments in the BLM land. This isn't the first engagement between the BLM and the private business, but some residents say that this is the first to be so close to rural homes and protected wilderness.
