Artist crystal bi is transforming Boston’s public spaces with interactive events that invite residents to reflect on memory, belonging, and the power of imagination. Through collaborative experiences inspired by ancestral traditions and local history, bi encourages Bostonians to envision a more inclusive and hopeful future for their city.

The Boston artist is using her background in environmental science and activism to train and empower the next generation of dance leaders. “Culture is really an integral part of resiliency and survival,” Molinar said.

The natural world has been a powerful muse for artists across the ages, and in our present era, engaging with our environment is more urgent than ever. Meet 10 local artists of color who are foregrounding the environment — its beauty, its fragility, and the mounting challenges — in their work.

A handful of local bands can fill up a venue as large as Boston’s 3,500-capacity Roadrunner. Couch is one of them. After years of touring success, the group has released its debut album.

“It is an honor to receive an award that celebrates the creativity and care of today’s artists,” said Lorna Simpson in a statement from the museum.

The band took home three awards: Artist of the Year, Song of the Year for their protest anthem, “Who’ll Stand with Us?” and Music Video of the Year for the same song. New Artist of the Year went to ISHA!

The 2009 cult-favorite horror film about a couple being haunted by an evil spirit has made the jump to the stage and, after a run in Boston, is headed to Broadway. The creative team shared the effects and sounds that helped translate the cinematic tension for live performances.

The multi-state fair returns to West Springfield Sept. 18-Oct. 4. In addition to the concerts, variety acts and agriculture, the food is a main attraction. From fried Oreos to Cajun lobster on a stick, WBUR's Solon Kelleher previews the dishes to try this year.
