There are many things about the interior of Furia that suggest “neo-bistro”: the raw concrete walls, the bare wooden two-tops, the long bar illuminated by drippy candlesticks, the walls lined with wine bottles, almost exclusively natural. They do not serve chips and guac, nor margaritas (or any cocktails for that matter). This is not a Tex-Mex cantina. They instead serve a tight, ever-evolving menu of street tacos, plus a careful selection of natural wines and mezcals made from wild agave. It’s a pan-Mexican taquería with a Parisian neo-bistro sensibility, delivering exceptional quality with a take-it-or-leave-it spirit. Unsurprisingly, locals love it.

Opened in 1984 by Ta Ming'N'Ghia, Dong Huong has been a pioneer of Vietnamese cuisine in Belleville, with a focus on northern specialties. It’s easy to spot, thanks to the long brick-red and mustard awning, and an illuminated half-moon sign reading “Dong Huong” that guides diners toward the entrance. Over the decades, it’s become a neighborhood stalwart, the kind of spot where people who grew up in Belleville meet their parents for weekday lunches.
