Legendary artist Jorge R. Gutierrez, aka "Super Macho," known for his folk art-influenced paintings and animations for "The Book of Life," is showing

"I essentially feel like the communities that I paint in have some sort of ownership towards the murals that I'm creating," says the City Terrace-based artist. "And I really like creating artwork that is accessible, much different than a gallery piece.”

Phillip Cejudo grew up serving tostadas at El Mar Azul, and currently oversees his own Venice breakfast street stand by a truck he calls home. His hope is to open Rosie's Canteen in a vintage Airstream and bring wholesome food back to the community that raised him.

The chili is made with Guinness Extra Stout, fire-roasted chiles, chipotles en adobo, spices, dark chocolate, and a beef ball that is smoked over the chili, allowing its fat to drip into the pot, before the meat is folded back in.

“I am trying to recreate an atmosphere that is very close to a backyard barbecue in Brazil,” the chef tells L.A. TACO. “People can expect good music, lots of protein: beef ribs, steaks, sausages, and veggies."

“There's . . . nowhere else, other than L.A., where you'd you find these two cultures in such proximity, which is also why there are so many half-Persian, half-Mexican people,” the party organizer says.
